Our Mission

"Providing integral golf and business training to individuals seeking ultimate performance in golf and life."

A Brief History

Golf: Inside & Out (GIO) opened its first indoor training center in December, 2002. The training center is located at 9761 York-Alpha Drive in North Royalton, Ohio . The training facility is designed to help golfers learn, train, and mature their technical, physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social, and business skills through a series of in-depth, structured integral curriculums, (also see Golf Training and Business Golf pages for more information).

The Institute of Integral Golf began in 2002 to unite like-minded golf professionals and other integral practitioners (medicine, business, sports, education, psychology, and spirituality) who share a common vision for the integral life style and philosophy.

Integral Golf Training – A 21st Century Model of Human and Players Development

What makes the difference between an average golfer athlete and a top champion? At Golf: Inside & Out, the answer is found in the type of training the athlete receives.

All too often, the recreational golfer, junior player, and even tour level professional are only exposed to the technical aspects of golf. When a swing flaw occurs, the golfer goes to a pro for a “quick fix”. The problem is, the fix never lasts very long and the golfer is back to the pro for another band-aid. We call this approach the cycle of “fix-it, breakdown, fix-it, breakdown”. While the development of technical skills are essential, they are not the totality of player development.

Many top level professional athletes are now aware that to reach their potential in golf, they need an integrated or integral approach which combines technical, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual skills. It is our philosophy that all golfers, regardless of skill level, need an integral approach to raise their level of the game. Recreational, junior, and college golf athletes need this same integral model if they are to reach their potential in playing the game with a high level of competency, joy, inner peace, and freedom of movement.

Research by integral thinkers such as Michael Murphy, George Leonard, Ken Wilber and others have shown that cross-training in the major areas of human development (technical, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) will accelerate the growth and development of the person and the player. At Golf: Inside & Out we say: “As the human grows, so grows the player. And as the player grows, so grows the player's game.” It is the transformation of the player and the player's whole game/life which is one of Golf: Inside & Out's essential goals.

How to Get Started in Playing Your Best Golf Ever

Students are first evaluated in their technical skills of putting, short game, and full swing, as well as their emotional intelligence and mental skills. A seven level color code is also used to determine the strengths and undeveloped skills of the player based on video analysis, self-assessments, and their current game statistics.

A plan of action is then recommended on where the student needs to begin their journey to self mastery. After a module or integrated curriculum is completed, the student will then be able to measure their skill progress based on training and practice assessments and improvements in their game statistics. Training manuals for each curriculum are given to the student for on-going reference and review. Skype conferencing is also available to each student to stay in touch in their integral coach and on-going support.

The Integral Performance Team

Golf: Inside & Out refers its students to practitioners (when appropriate) who share the integral vision of human growth and development. These practitioners provide services in club fitting, physical fitness, integrative medicine, chiropractic, wellness, nutrition, massotherapy, cognitive therapy, neurofeedback, podiatric, hypnotherapy, shadow work, and dream work. Together, the integral team can assist students and individuals in becoming more balanced in their work, recreational activities and life style.

Golf: Inside & Out Philosophy

  • A person's skills and abilities can be fully utilized only through proper training and practice.
  • Golf training is more than providing a series of short term "band-aid" lessons.
  • Each student is unique in their way of learning and should learn at their own pace.
  • Commitment to excellence by the trainer-coach and the student is needed if long-term learning is to occur.
  • Without structure and a consistent training and practice routine, a student will not achieve a skill level which will bring ultimate mental and physical consistency to the student's game.

The Meaning of the Spiral

The symbol of the spiral represents the growth, evolution, and transformation of the golfer. At each new level or stage of the spiral, the golfer grows in awareness, skills, consciousness and maturity. As a golfer grows, they come to see everything in a new light, creating a strong need for variety, novelty, change, balance, and integration.
